Overview of Sendai City

The Tohoku area encompasses the northeast part of the main island of Japan, which includes six prefectures, Aomori, Iwate, Akita, Miyagi, Yamagata, and Fukushima. Sendai located in Miyagi Prefecture is the political and economic center of the Tohoku area. Despite the central city in the Tohoku area, Sendai is full of nature, including the Hirose River, which runs through the central part of the city, and Zelkova street trees, which is why Sendai is called, "City of Trees".

In the 16th century, Masamune Date governed the Tohoku area from Sendai and built Sendai Castle. Although Sendai Castle no longer exists, participants can see the rock wall and gatehouse of the castle from bus when they come to the venue.

Sendai city is also surrounded by many scenic places, such as Matsushima, which is one of the three most beautiful scenic spots in Japan, Mt. Zao, which has a crater lake ("Okama"), and Akiu and Sakunami hot springs. World Heritage Hiraizumi, where you can find Konjikido Golden Hall in Chusonji Temple, is a nice place for a one-day excursion.
